William Pinkley Daily
(June 1, 1875 - November 30, 1952)
William Pinkley Daily, sixth child of George Daniel Daily, married Josephine Huskey (July 21, 1877 - March 21, 1956). Her parents were Ferdinand and Martha Jane (Watson) Huskey. "Pink" was a woodsman, cutting and hauling timber and doing subsistence farming in Southwest Colbert County. About 1910 he owned 18 oxen, called "steers," to make 3 teams to pull loads. The steers were used for their strength and sure-footedness by he and his 2 sons to haul logs and lumber over rough, muddy, mountain roads. Eye-witnesses declare Pink could use a whip to flick a fly from the ear of the lead steer while standing twenty yards away and never touch the steer's ear. In 1915 he traded the oxen for mules with which to begin farming with his sons. Pink was known for his bass singing voice at the Mountain Springs Baptist Church. Pink and Josie produced seven girls and three boys:
